In the spirit of the new year, I’d like to share some of what you can expect from me and my writing in 2019!
Now, I’m known for setting tons of goals and making long to-do lists that cannot possibly be accomplished in the allotted time. What can I say? I’m ambitious! And because I love writing, it’s only natural for me to plan doing lots of it.
I know that all my 2019 goals may not be met. I know that plans may change as the year develops. And that’s okay. But after thinking and praying about the new year, this is what *I hope* you can expect from me:
A finished draft of my novel, The Edge of the Sword.
I hope this will also be a polished draft. But mostly, I just want to type THE END on a draft of this novel before 2019 concludes. The Edge of the Sword is a big and complex story, so I know it’s going to take time, but I think a year is enough. Finishing a draft will be HUGE for me, because once the story’s on the page, I’ve got something that I can edit and polish, no matter how messy it is at first. A finished draft is a major milestone on my way to having a marketable novel manuscript. If all goes well, I’ll be able to start edits and beta-reading of this novel before the end of the year.
A published fiction short story.
Currently, none of my published work includes a fiction piece—which is ironic, since fiction is my specialty! During 2019, I’d love to write some short fiction and have at least one short story published. Having more than one story published would be even better!
During January, I’ll be taking a brief hiatus from my novel to write a fantasy story called, “Igniting Ice.” Intrigued? Hopefully, it will be published for you to read this year! 😉
My articles in published books.
A new indie publisher, Mythos & Ink, will be publishing two books during 2019 that include articles from yours truly!
The first book, scheduled to release this February, is Area of Effect: Wisdom from Geek Culture. This anthology book compiles some of the best articles from Area of Effect magazine, and will include one of mine!
The second book, scheduled to release in late May, is Thy Geekdom Come: 42 Fandom-Inspired Devotionals. I was first invited to participate in this project in 2017, and I can’t believe the book’s release date is so close! This is another anthology-style collection and will include four geeky devotional articles from me.
More articles for Think Christian magazine.
I started working as a Contributing Writer for Think Christian magazine in late 2018 (see my blog post about the transition). I really enjoyed the experience and plan to continue writing for them in 2019! Keep an eye out for my articles on their website.
These aren’t the only writing ambitions I have for 2019, but I figure I should keep the list manageable for now! I’m excited to see what doors God opens for me this year, and I pray that He receives the glory in everything I do.
Do any of my 2019 writing plans surprise you? What projects are you working on in the new year?
